A drug addiction or alcohol addiction is just as difficult to deal with as cigarette cravings that you may feel when you have an extensive history of smoking. One of the most difficult things about addiction is feeling that you need to use. However, it is important that you do not give into these feelings, you will be able to get over them in time by controlling your cravings and developing new habits.

When you are thinking about lighting up, what you should do would be to chew a piece of gum. When you take this approach instead, you would be able to limit your cravings and keep your brain busy while developing a new pattern that will help you to overcome your addiction. While patches are helpful, the most effective way for you to overcome these cravings would be to associate them with things that are not harmful to your health.

Once you limit the amount of cigarette cravings that you experience during the day, this would allow you to smoke less frequently. The result of this process would be the ability to stop smoking without having to go through a lot of pain or stress in order to accomplish this.

Dealing with any drug addiction, is much the same approach, you want to go through the detox process in order to get the drugs out of your system. Link these cravings to use to other things that are better for your health, this would improve the way that you feel on a daily basis.

If you want to overcome any addiction, you should seek treatment that will help you to deal with the emotions linked to drug use. Once you are able to confront these feelings, you will be able to stop using drugs to cope with the difficult events in life.
