Drinking too much for your body to handle is extremely dangerous to your health. Long term effects include diseases on the liver and blood pressure. There is also a short term condition called alcohol poisoning also called alcohol intoxication. There are signs that show this condition, and they are called alcohol poisoning symptoms.

A number of people think that vomiting or passing out after drinking a great deal of alcohol is just normal occurrences. However, these can be indicators that poisoning is taking place.  Because of misconception and lack of knowledge, people fail to seek for medical attention when their friends pass out after drinking too much. If there is proper knowledge of alcohol poisoning symptoms, alcohol related deaths and complications can be avoided.

To help you identify alcohol poisoning, you should be first aware the nature of alcohol and what is does to the body. Alcohol has depressing effects that attack the nervous system.  When taken too much, alcohol also changes some normal involuntary functions such as breathing. That is why an individual experiencing alcohol poisoning will most likely have great difficulty breathing properly. In addition, poisoning also take away gag reflex. A person continuously vomiting without the gag reflex is in great danger of choking.

When someone drinks alcohol, alcohol travels to the stomach and intestines. This then enters the blood in different parts of the body. Even when the person sleeps or become unconscious, the concentration of blood alcohol may still continue to increase. When alcohol poisoning is not treated, it can result to several complications such as brain damage, hypoglycemia or low blood sugar and extremely low body temperature or hypothermia.

There is another type of symptoms associated with alcohol. This group of symptoms is what is referred to as alcohol withdrawal symptoms. They develop after the person cease drinking alcohol abruptly.
